[Mem Share] Debauchery and murder go hand in hand...
You're annoyed. Rightfully so, by your own figuring. You and Seregil had cut your night short and hoofed it halfway across the city to come to Atre's aid, only to find the troupe had matters already well in hand. Rude is a word for it, and one you've verbally applied to the situation already, though Seregil is too deep in his thoughts to pay it any mind.
It is strange. This isn't the side of town for the wealthy or the well-to-do, so for someone like Atre to be here? It doesn't fit. And irritation is still stirring you up as you ride on toward the temple.
“Did you enjoy your performance back there at the Three Dragons?” You ask wryly.
“My amazing winning streak, you mean?” Seregil says with a wink.
“No.” Comes your flat response.
“Ah, the stripping naked in front of a hundred or so noblemen and women part of the evening." Seregil laughs. "‘Enjoy’ isn’t the word I’d use, but it was satisfyingly useful.”
“Useful!” You sputter.
“Talí, before I met you, Lord Seregil was known for things like that. Well, not usually in such a public place, perhaps—”
“Perhaps?” You raise a skeptical eyebrow at that.
“At parties, mostly.” Seregil says.
“So you did that a lot?”
“Now and then, just to keep up my reputation. Mostly it was things like getting other young nobles into trouble stealing things like public statues or bluecoats’ horses while we were drunk, slumming in borrowed clothes, or daring each other to jump off Widow’s Cliff into the sea." Seregil explains. "You should try that. Very invigorating—if you live.”
You can't help it. You crack a smile, and laugh softly. “Am I bad for your reputation, now that we’re spending so much time back in the city?”
Seregil laughs. “I’d say we dispelled any rumors of that tonight, wouldn’t you? I was lucky, though.”
“You did win a lot of money.” You say with a nod.
“Yes, but I was thinking more of Koris’s search of my person.”
You laugh. Koris had been quite insistent upon searching Seregil's person for a luck piece, any magical charm or trinket that might have aided Seregil's good fortune. That's what prompted the stripping from the start. “What was so lucky about that? He had you standing naked on a chair.”
Seregil winks as you pass through the glow of a street lantern. “Yes, but his search stopped short of the most obvious hiding place.”
“The most—?” You give him a questioning look, then realization dawns, and it's replaced by one of shock. “Bilairy’s balls, Seregil!”
“Close.”
Seregil grins, and you can't find the decency to do more than blush.
