Bright the day, my friends. I do not know what to say of our accommodations, though I count it promising that we are alive. My name is Moondance k'Treva and I am what is known as a Healing-Adept. What that means is: I am able to heal people as well as places.

[The second portion of his power has been taken from him - though he does not realize it yet. His merry, inviting tone is punctuated with a shyer smile.]

Now, tell me where it hurts, hm? I will feel better if I am busy, so think of this as you doing me a favor!

A sentiment I can certainly appreciate.

[There's a pause.]

Your "abilities"? How precisely will magically healing help us to escape?

Healing is not all I can do. [Moondance is preening slightly, though he ends up sighing gustily.] I am a warrior with my powers and my body.

Of course you are.

[It could be said that he didn't mean to sound so harsh...but that would be a lie.]

I'm not entirely sure "magic" is going to solve the problem presented by this facility.

I cannot claim to solve any problem of this magnitude, truly. But I know what I can do for individuals and the land.

[He is one man, however; one Mage. This job is too great for him.]

A mage who knows his limits. That's refreshing.

[In his experience, 'magic' users tended to think themselves invincible.]

Only a fool thinks that he alone can save a world. There are too many factors for one soul to overcome.

(The Tayledras are proud, but they know their limitations.)

Wise words, of course. Is that your position, then? To save your world?

I am not meant for so great a task. I and my fellow Tayledras seek to heal the Pelagirs, which is but a stretch of wild land.

And what happened to the Pelagirs that requires healing?

A very old magic war. It tore the land and poisoned it. The creatures there are...wrong. Some must be put out of their misery while others can be freed.

[He's reminded, for a moment, of a place he once visited with Elizabeth, where her family rules. A place that makes absolutely no sense.]

And magic is supposed to solve everything, isn't it? It's sounds perfectly safe.

No, certainly not. But what made the wounds can be used to repair them in the right hands.

[They work endlessly and sometimes they are successful.]

The Tayledras believe in balance. Very few things are completely good or bad, light or dark, so we find ways to harness the power we need.

Oh, of course there are myriad ways to harness magic, I'm sure. Such as?

[He really cannot compute magic. Like...at all.]

The land has leylines running through it; they look like rivers, but instead of carrying water, they carry magic. If you can tap into those, you will usually have all the power you need to complete a task.

Of course, and anyone can tap into these 'rivers', correct?

[He knows that's not true, and that's why magic makes literally no sense to him.]

You need magical ability - or Gifts. Think of the abilities acting together as an extra sense. [And sometimes the Gifts can enhance senses - particularly sight and hearing.]

Ah, yes, of course, only certain people can use magic.

[This is why magic makes no sense.]

Thus why they are called Gifts. [Some are given the Gifts and some are not. You can't even count on inheritance in his world.]
