Bright the day, my friends. I do not know what to say of our accommodations, though I count it promising that we are alive. My name is Moondance k'Treva and I am what is known as a Healing-Adept. What that means is: I am able to heal people as well as places.

[The second portion of his power has been taken from him - though he does not realize it yet. His merry, inviting tone is punctuated with a shyer smile.]

Now, tell me where it hurts, hm? I will feel better if I am busy, so think of this as you doing me a favor!

You're a healer? That's quite a rare gift where I'm from. I don't have it but, I would love to learn all I can if possible? Our knowledge of such is limited.

I am and I do not mind sharing what I know. Are you a Mage? [That will make it easier, though he can teach him methods that do not require magic too.]

I guess you could use that word. I use magic. And thank you. If I'm able to bring back any knowledge of this, I know people who would be very appreciative.

I cannot promise that, but we can learn here and now for the benefit of this populace. [Moondance frowns, worried.] Are there those that are ill? If so, what are their symptoms?

No, they are not ill. My people have lost much of the understanding of magic. It's hard to master what you have when you have few to teach you.

I see. The Tayledras are small in number, but we are rather gifted when it comes to magic. Of course I include myself, but my magic had nothing to do with them originally. I was born with this power.

There are other kinds of magic? Most of the people, we call them Deryni, are born with it. There are some who have to be ....empowered for lack of a better word but it's still something that they were born with. It just wasn't active previously. Is this power something you learned from them?

I had the power before I was put into their care. It was because of my power - and my ill use of it - that I was in such bad shape to begin with. I needed guidance, so you could say they taught me.

You misused your powers?

[Kelson wished he could be surprised, but misuse of powers was one thing that shaped his entire kingdom. He knew the damage it could wrought.]

I did. I let my temper get the better of me and I called down lightning upon my lover.

[Something he will forever regret.]

He perished calling my name.

You lost control. It wasn't on purpose.

[Still that didn't make it any better. The Haldane line was filled with kings who couldn't control their powers and people ended up dead. 'whoops, let's just say he had a heart attack and have a closed casket.....' Kelson winced, unable to keep from being reminded of a similar scenario that had happened only a few months before. He'd executed his cousin for it. He lowered his head, blaming himself again for things beyond his control, and the actions of other people.]

What did you do then?

[As much as he might like the man, Kelson believed in the law. He believed that actions had consequences. For everyone.]

No, it was not. I was angry and hurt. I thought I did not mean as much to him as he did to me. I was wrong.

[To punish himself, he had cut his wrists and almost perished from the blood loss. The Tayledras - Starwind - was able to save him and give him a new path in life.]

I... [He pushes back his sleeves and reveals the scars on his wrists.] I did not think I could live.

[Kelson was caught. He was of two minds, believing and having been taught that suicide was a sin, but also having wrestled with it in the past himself. Was it still suicide if you order a subject to help you die to escape further torture?]

I can't say I understand completely. Nor do I expect you are telling me this for my approval. Have you made any amends?

I do not expect you to understand. I would rather you didn't for your sake. [He is a Healer - wishing another pain goes against his entire ideology.]

I spent my life trying to make amends, but I know I will never succeed. I cannot bring him back.

[Kelson couldn't think of a better punishment for the man, honestly. A life of penance, trying to make amends for the life he took but would never be able too. He'd sentenced others the same way before. He liked to think it worked. The man didn't seem like a hazard either.]

No, you will never succeed but the only thing you can do is try to prevent further tragedy, and reflect on the life you cost. You do have control of your powers now, though, right?

I am an Adept Healer-Mage of the Tayledras. If I do not have control of my powers by now, there is no hope. [Which means, yes, he has control.] If I were...emotionally overwhelmed...I know too how to cut myself off from taking energy from the land. And if I somehow fail to stop myself - as unlikely as that would be - my Master and Ashke would intervene.

Ashke? Is that some kind of magic user?

[Just because he was rooming with Starwind didn't mean he'd picked up all the linguistics yet. Or the implications.]

I know Starwind. My magic is undoubtedly different from yours but, is it something you might be able to teach me?

No, it is a...pet name, you could say. For the one who is my other half. But he is a magic user too, so that is convenient!

[Moondance is okay being the embarrassing partner.]
