[ Ubbe's young in the memory. He's with his brothers. Sigurd and Ivar had been fighting and Hvitserk had been egging them on -- so he'd carefully picked up Ivar from his wagon and sat him on his lap, urging Sigurd and Hvitserk to sit down with them. ]
I've got a story about Thor to tell you!
[ It's probably a story they've all heard before. After all, Floki makes it his business to tell them all the stories of the gods. Ubbe's not as much of a storyteller as Floki but it's starting to get dark and their mother is drunk and passed out already -- not surprising anyone at all.
Once he managed to convince the older two of his younger brothers to settle down -- Ivar not given a choice being that Ubbe's physically holding him (and there's no axe to hit him with) -- he begins.
What follows is the tale told only in the way a young boy can about the god Thor. A giant had stolen his hammer, Mjolnir, had been stolen by a giant who refused to give it back unless the most beautiful goddess Freya agreed to marry him.
Of course, Thor could never stand for this and despite what mockery it could make of him he dresses as Freya and travels to the lands of the Giants. He pretends to take part in the wedding but once Mjolnir arrives he takes it back and with one mighty blow he destroys the giant!
It's not the best story for settling down children as it's exciting and a humorous one. ]

[ While women were viewed as equals in many ways for a man to dress as a woman is something that does go against the virility and masculinity of the culture. ]
At home, he would cause us much trouble.

[Her voice is sweet like honey and wine but uncertain. This place confuses her and those questions inspire a curiosity that entices and frightens her.]
Excuse me if I am interrupting. I've only just found myself here and I saw the story you told. I apologize if it is something that you hadn't wished for me to know but I wanted to know more about the gods of your home.
I've learned about different gods and legends but I haven't heard of yours. They sound like interesting creatures.

I don't think I mind people knowing. It was a good time for myself and my brothers.
You have never heard of the Norse gods?

[She wishes that her and her sister could have been like this.]
I know that there are many of them but nothing more.

[ Ubbe chuckles. ]
I see. Well, Thor is the son of Odin, the Allfather.

[That single moment is enough for her and she will always hold that memory close to her heart.]
Odin. I don't recognize the name or is he named Allfather? [Because she knows that name, that's what her father is called.]

You always did have a knack for getting us to stop fighting.
[Though it had been easy when he could just take Ivar and drag him away from the other two.]

It didn't always work but you all were just restless.
[ or sometimes angry. Ragnar being gone was hard on them all that way. ]

[Ivar enjoyed picking fights with his brothers just a little bit too much. Part of it was the fact he always held such anger in his heart even as a child, but part of it is that he was just terrible in a general sense.]

Perhaps but it's not exactly wrong.
[ Ubbe misses a lot about those times. The most painful thing about this being shown here is the sight of Sigurd but well that didn't seem like something he should bring up with Ivar. ]

[It was a good thing he possessed it whether it was innate or learned. Ubbe had been more of a father figure than their own had been most of the time, especially after Ragnar had left for ten years.]
