He hadn't been as terrible as he become but Theon didn't want to be that man either. Perhaps if there were something left of him he might be able to give into Sansa and this world easier. But he's a different man now and he wouldn't necessarily trade who he was now to become the man he'd been at the start of it. That man would not have made Sansa a good love.
