[A grimace, and he taps a finger with his book as he lists off the victims he had seen fall between the cracks.]

The poor, people of different religions, ethnicities, inclinations, people with bad habits... The list goes on I’m afraid. If you are different or are seen as a blight on society then I’m afraid the world is not kind.

[He waved the book a little, as though to dispel the atmosphere a little and tried to imagine how the matter of etchings in skin would even work. He still has a lot of questions about magic, but he can’t quite figure out what angle to come at the matter from. He’d met several people who all came from places with magic, and it all seemed so... different.]

Hm... That sounds... Well that sounds complicated, though I expect that’s probably due in part to my lack of knowledge on the subject of magic. Is this something anyone could do or...?

[Because that sounds like knowledge that the wrong people would abuse very easily.]
