Good, that's very helpful. How often do they take out memories and nightmares?

Every few months or so.

And there's no way to stop it?

Not that we've found. Max, the person who's been here the longest hasn't even. And I know he's been trying with everything at his disposal.

I see. How often do people arrive?

Unfortunately, there's really not a set schedule to that. I mean, sometimes a lot of people arrive at once, sometimes people just trickle in and sometimes we have months where it's no one. The Sphere said that it's trying to stop it, so we never can tell.

It's intelligent?

Yes. But it's only ever spoken directly to us once. And that's in the nine years that Max, our longest resident has been here.

Why did it speak?

[11calls]

There was an incident where an outside moss got in and infected it through a different AI that was here at the time. The AI ended up killing and kidnapping a lot of us, and trying to turn the rest of the population here against us too.

It didn't remember the reason for pulling us here, but it was trying to figure out how to properly send us home to the universe and time that we were taken from.

So it has no control over anything.

Not really. No. But also in the same way it kind of has control over everything. The communication devices in our heads, the power, the water, the air... all of it.

A daunting thought.

Just a little bit of one. And before you ask the next question: if we try and remove the devices, we die.

I assumed they were cybernetic devices.

Yeah, they're definitely hardwired to the brain.

Having them removed isn't... pleasant.

People have done it. I’ve had it done to me.

I died. So did everyone else it happened too.

I see. Is there a way you can prevent someone from taking it out?

[There are a few people he expects would do that.]

Most people don't want to take it out. This was... a special circumstance. It's not the sort of thing that happens all the time here.
