So... this Magnolia Warbler just kind of showed up in my dome. Which is weird, right? I’ve never seen any birds here before.

It’s pretty. What is it’s environment like on your world? Is it yellow? Is the bird camouflage?

[ People don't usually seem interested when Stan talks about birds so this is new to him. ]

It's not yellow. The bird's a male so his colors are really bright. It attracts females. They're really pretty against the green of trees and everything.

Oh. I didn’t realize that birds did that. Doesn’t that make them easy prey for hunters though?

Yeah. It makes it easier for them to mate and everything... but, people don't really hunt these kinds of birds -- at least where I'm from.

There doesn’t appear to be much meat on them. That’s true.

I think they're just important to bring music to nature.

So they sing?

They do and they're all pretty unique

What's unique about them?

Their pitch, the melodies...it's like different songs.

Aren’t all bird songs different?

Yes. That's what's so great about them.

How many different ones can you tell?

I've never tried to count... I know all the ones that are around where I live in Maine.

Is Maine your planet?

No. It's my state... Earth is the planet.

Earth. There seem to be many people here from there.

On Earth, we think we are the only planet that has life.

Really? That's very.... different than my universe. Most planets, I mean.

It's kind of weird how different everyone's worlds are. Some people believe in aliens but everyone tends to think they're crazy.

Well, I suppose if you don't see many, it makes it difficult to believe in. Did you believe in them back home?

[stantheman]

No. There’s no reason to believe in them back home.

Really? Do people from Earth think the galaxy is so small then?

They know it’s big and still think they’re the only ones.
