[The video clicks on with Alex sitting in their domed tent, and she's got both Apophenia, their large gray pitbull and Simon's Cat, who is unsurprisingly a cat who used to be Simon's right next to her. In front of both of the animals, there's almost full food bowls and water bowls that Alex had stored before their dome went missing, because she'd assumed that it was only a matter of time really until they'd lost it.
But Alex looks confused as hell, and she's got a dog treat in her hand, that Apo is just ignoring in favor of pettings.]
Um has anyone else noticed that their animals aren't drinking or eating? Cause they aren't. But they're also fine. It's like whatever is effecting us isn't bothering them when it comes to food or water. I don't get it. Even when I run Apo around with the kids and a ball, he doesn't get out of breath or anything. This is so weird. I'm a little worried about it.
[From the tone of Alex's voice she's a way more than a little worried about it.
[Yes all animals are fine and do not require food or water during this time. So your character's animals don't need it either!]

Speedy hasn't eaten. He's so small. I... How long have yours not been eating?
no subject
It's weird. I mean it's like they can tell I'm stressed out?
[Apo just comes over and puts his big head in her lap and huffs.]
But they're fine.

Speedy isn't even doing that 'daddy feed me' cry he always does. But I was worried he was sick.

He just ignores it. I... I was working so hard on stocking leaves and flowers for him. No vegetables, to keep them from coming out of other people's mouths. But I'm scared about where to get food if he does eat.

[He's not hyperventilating. You're hyperventilating.]

Okay Tommy. It’s gonna be okay. We’re gonna figure this out. How much plant stuff do you have left? Because I’ve kind of been saving my veggies and stuff just in case someone else needs them more.
[For example; one of the kids.]
I can make sure you have extra.

no subject
Okay. Well there isn’t any leaves left. Can he normally eat veggies? Like carrot and celery sticks?
no subject
I can't waste human food on him. But he doesn't get it. They suffer and they don't know why.
no subject
I don’t think they’re suffering. The animals I mean. Like. Even with being in this small of a space, Simon’s cat is fine.
no subject
[One of the three best things in this world for him. Speedy, Wanda, and Gar.]
I can't lose him.
no subject
[In case someone else gets the idea to try and eat one of the animals.
If they even could hurt them.]
no subject
[Not like he can even outrun shit easily right now. The rations that are there for everyone are literally starving him.]
Gonna go take a nap with him. Thanks for the comfort.

[Alex doesn't say it, but the tone of her voice is very: no matter what.]

[That’s an exaggeration, but the detective was concerned.]
He doesn’t seem to be out of energy though, still playing with the kids and following me around like nothing’s different.
no subject
[Because honestly at this point, if it's her two, and Speedy and Pretzel, that's a undeniable pattern, especially when there's so few animals in the Sphere.]
no subject
[He needs a minute, his memory isn’t great sometimes. There’s a shuffling of papers as he goes through his notebook, he’s been keeping track that way because of what was going on.]
Yep— two days. I’ve never had a dog before, but that can’t be normal.
no subject
This is weird.
no subject
But! Then he kept turning his nose away at anything I offered him.
[There’s a small frown in his voice as he continued,]
I... can’t help but wonder if this is a side effect of what the sphere has been doing. Like it’s changed them somehow to accommodate for what’s happening.
no subject
I’m wondering that myself. But what worries me is that if it can do that for the animals why isn’t it doing that for the kids? Why let the kids suffer. That’s.
[Bullshit and Alex hates it when kids suffer because of some authority figure.]
Stan asked if the pets were real and I’m wondering if they are and they aren’t like the different versions of ourselves or the nightmares. Like the nightmares can hurt you.
[Alex makes an unconscious gesture to touch her neck where the demon had choked her. ]
And the ghosts were around for a while. I just. Don’t understand.
no subject
[He found himself hoping so, because if the sphere was choosing to let people, specifically the kids, suffer needlessly in this strange crisis? That was just unacceptable. Not that they could do anything about it, aside from more upset and worried about the damned things intentions.
He looked down at Pretzel, the dog was currently curled up on his lap looking small but healthy as ever. This made no sense... Then again, did anything make sense these days?]
If... mm... If they aren’t ‘real’ in the way we are, but more in the way of the nightmares.
[A grimace at the mention of the physical sort, the ones that he’d luckily missed entirely by arriving after the fact.]
Then that might be why they are more easily altered or changed? Of course, I can’t see them being quite like the nightmares... they all have been nothing but positive since arrival. The idea of them being something ‘other’ or unreal is strange. They have such unique, realistic personalities— unless that’s just how we perceive the behaviour the sphere made them to have...?
[He’s started to ramble a bit, the way he does when he’s starting to think a little too much on a case. His voice is dropping a bit, this is just another worrying development in an already unpleasant situation.]
no subject
What I’ve been thinking for a while is that the animals are like. Drawn out of our subconscious in the same way that it pulls the nightmares. Apo and Simon’s cat were both from memories of a life that Richard experienced when we weren’t ourselves. So that’s where they came from. I believe Jon Snow has a wolf from back home and he probably came in a similar way to what Richard did.
The other animals: Pretzel, Inesa’s rabbit, Thor, Speedy, Stan’s bird, Rey’s porg all of them I think just come from peoples General memories of what those animals are.
So they react how we’d expect the animals to act. Like Thor is the perfect dog for Beverly that she could ever want. Pretzel is perfect for you, Lancelot is perfect for Inesa’s idea of a rabbit.
I’m wondering if the Sphere can make them not hungry because it created them. Also when we had the ghosts here last year the animals didn’t respond either.
But while it brought us here, the Sphere didn’t create us. So it can’t make us not hungry. And I think if it tried, it would just be a mental thing where we think weren’t not hungry but our bodies are actually starving to death.
[Alex lets out a small sigh. ]
Sorry I ramble when I don’t understand something.
no subject
No— no need for apologies, how else does one work a problem out without talking it out? I’d rather know what’s come to mind on your part than keep muddling along without any alternating views.
And that would actually make a little sense...? Going back to a prior conversation we had on the animals arriving... It’s very likely that many were made with us in mind, with subtle differences between those that existed as real animals in our memories compared to ones we only had knowledge of. This might almost confirm that?
[As much as anything could be confirmed anyway... And he didn’t like the idea of the sphere trying to change them and fail, that was just a whole other anxiety attack waiting to happen. Probably later, for now he could think about the animals.]
We should still monitor them closely though, perhaps keep an eye on the other animals as we can...? Just to make sure we’re right and nothing changes.
no subject
[For a moment, Alex is silent as she considers it. If this is a thing then it means that they don’t have to worry about them starving or needing water or anything else that’s happening.
On the other, Alex switches to private with a sigh. ]
If we’re right or not, it’s not going to matter to people who are hungry. Inesa already said that people tried to take Lancelot from her to eat him. They were stopped but I’m worried about if someone tries it again. If someone tried to eat my animals I’d probably murder them. But if something happened to Speedy...
Maybe well... we should plan on bringing the animals closer to the security at the supply tent. Just in case.
no subject
They what? I uh... I suppose we should have seen that coming... As food grows scarcer, people are going to get more and more desperate.
[Still, stealing and murdering someone’s pet was outrageous. He hadn’t had Pretzel for long, but he knew he would have been devastated to lose the pup let alone have him taken away to be eaten of all things...]
I agree, Inesa was lucky enough to have gotten away with Lancelot once. It might be smarter to keep them in one of the tents that is more heavily guarded to avoid future attempts. I know some are more equipped to handle such a thing, but the kids...? I wouldn’t want them to go through that, and they could get hurt themselves.
(ooc: Same thing I said on the other tag applies here! We can continue this or handwave it in favour of starting something new next month <3)

I don't know they feel pretty real to me. Doesn't your bird feel real to you?
no subject
Maybe some but...a lot of everything about how they exist is unnatural.

What do you mean?

[Alex sounds a little confused.]
Bev's puppy has definitely grown in the time he's been here. I believe Pretzel has too.

[She pauses awkwardly.]
I'm worried about their safety. Someone already tried to take Lancelot from me to eat him...

Jesus.
no subject
If you know others with pet's, please warn them... Ghost is able to take care of himself and has been helping me look after Lancelot but I know not all animals are able to protect themselves.
no subject
And we can set up a rotation so that no one is out walking alone with their animals. After all, if they're not eating or drinking, they're not going to need to... relieve themselves.
no subject
Will that cause issue? I can also watch them, if you'd like. I don't mind.
no subject
I don’t know. I think she kind of goes where she wants now that she doesn’t want to eat people.
The animals should be safe around them at least.
no subject
I'll try and look after them too. I think the more eyes we have on them, the better. I'm really worried about Lancelot.
