[She's annoyed and exasperated, having tried several times with this technology, but it seems that she's completely botched things. There's an alarm blaring in her dome, the bedside clock having gone off hours ago, but refusing to comply with her button smashing. Water is spurting in the sink, one of the faucets having broken off. Despite being a skilled hunter, she's pretty shit and learning how to manage the basic functions of her dome.]
As much as I hate to ask, someone is going to have to show me how to work half of what they've given us. That box with the time is constantly screeching and my indoors water supply is starting to pool on the floor. I've tried hitting it, twisting it, but that flimsy metal just broke off in my hand.
How in the name of the Eight did anyone manage this? It's like it's a trap set up to drive me mad.
My apologies to the neighbors who have to listen to this. I am sure it is driving you to drink the way it is driving me.

Uh... I think you might actually need to get someone there to fix your sink. I can probably offer answers on how some things work though, this place is rather difficult to get used to.
[The alarm clock is distracting though,]
If you follow the cord running out of the clock— the mm... screeching box as you put it? You should be able unplug it and it will stop making noise.

[It's almost like being in one of the bandit hideouts again, the ones that were half under water. Pretty soon the room would end up smelling like it too.]
The black rope like thing? [She followed it and gave it a hard yank. The blaring cut off immediately and Juliel let out a sigh of relief.] It won't start going off again?
no subject
[That’s better though, less noise makes thinking easier.]
As for your sink repair... I’m not sure? My friend Enis usually fixes the technology I break, but I’m not sure if she can fix plumbing.
[He’s not sure about giving this advice considering she broke off one of the faucets, but it’s not like it can get worse... right?]
There might be a valve or uh— a handle thing that you can turn to shut off the water flow under the sink? It might help, just until you can find someone to fix it.
no subject
[This was so much easier when it was just candles and torches. People had to make things complicated in the end.]
Under? Where is under?
[She's peering around, kneeling in the water as it soaks her skirts.]
There is a cabinet. Is that it?
no subject
[He hummed a little, a cabinet sounded promising at least?]
Mm... That might be it? Do you see anything like I described in the cabinet? It should be connected to some pipes.
no subject
[Which is possible if she loses her temper.]
I think so. There seems to be something twistable here. Which way do I turn it?
no subject
[Oh, criminy... Which direction? He sometimes got them mixed up.]
I believe... right would be the appropriate direction? That should tighten things and hopefully stop the flow of water to that sink. I think.
no subject
Right? [She gives it a try. It takes a few twists, but finally the water is shut, only leaving a small drip in the sink.]
Blessed Eight, it stopped!
Thank you, sir. I'm in your debt.
no subject
Excellent! Think nothing of it, Miss. I’m glad that I could help, I remember being new here myself. Lots of um... confusing things to learn about and get used to.
no subject
You can only get so lucky.
no subject
I can’t explain fully the how of it, as that’s rather beyond my understanding of technology... But since it’s connected to our brain, we can all use it to converse audibly, moving images such as we are now, and ‘text’ with each other at will over long distances through a network.
no subject
Does it stay there even if we are sent home?
no subject
[Which was why he warned her, considering what she did to the sink...]
I can’t say for certain what happens to it when we’re sent home, I um... haven’t known anyone who went home and returned here, nor have I gotten to go home myself? I presume that it would have to be removed though? Especially where many of us are not from worlds where such technology exists.

Wine would be good. Perhaps I should invite you for a swim? Fresh springs are reinvigorating.
no subject
How refreshing. You are already renovating your dome with improvements. I can certainly take a look and bring a bottle or two to toast your accomplishments.
no subject
I'm sure my neighbors are delighted with the improvements. If they ever need a swim or want to go fishing, they'll soon have a big enough lake to do both.
Just remember in your toast how my genius has greatly improved the domes we're provided. Everyone should be so lucky.
no subject
I believe my son Robb is your neighbor. He is quite the outdoorsy lad, I'm sure the new lake will be of great interest.
Wine, or something stronger? You sounded quite frustrated.
[ Somehow, after their banter, she sounds a little less so. ]
no subject
Oh is he? He must have been the one I saw fleeing early this morning when the box started blaring.
Brandy, if you have it. If I have a few glasses, I might see a lakeside house.
no subject
You certainly have made quite the splash. Our corner of the domes is usually a bit quieter, that's for sure.
I think I heard it, come to think of it. I'm just four doors away from yours. But I'll have to make a detour for brandy.
[ At least he has sources. ]
Have you at least gotten the floodwaters under control? I believe there are something called technicians that you can summon with this message system, to come help with your renovations.
no subject
Only four doors down? Good. If the spring doesn't stop, I can seek shelter in your room. You better not snore.
[She'll just leave that thought there for him.]
Someone is making suggestions to me. He seems to think there is some valve under the sink. I am about to go rummaging around. Excuse my appearance when you arrive, it requires crawling through the lake.
no subject
Did you just...invite yourself into my room? [ Ned's voice rumbles warm and gravelly. ] And how do you know I don't already have other fair maids taking shelter in my bed? [ Asked most archly. ]
Then I shall leave you to your spelunking, and we can either celebrate your victory when I arrive, or drown ourselves in brandy and water.
no subject
I am simply seeking sanctuary in a place where I will be safe. I'm aghast you would think anything obscene, sir. [And no, she didn't think about whether he had other women or not. Honestly, it didn't phase her or put a damper on her teasing.] Then those maids will have to find somewhere else to sleep. Or take the floor.
One or the other, though now there is an added threat to it. If this doesn't work, you will have to endure my presence for a much longer period.
no subject
Your presence is one thing. Your gift for...renovation is another. One lakefront property is quite enough for this row of domes, don't you think?
no subject
It may be, but mine is bigger.
no subject
Bigger? Questionable. Wetter? Certainly, if you do not tend to your dam.
no subject
Once you arrive, I should have the matter in hand.
no subject
Good. Because there are other matters I'd like to have in hand.
no subject
[She's struggling with the valve, but when it finally is shut off, she lets out a sigh of relief.]
What did you have in mind?
no subject
[ Brandy acquired, he arrives at her door half an hour later. ]
Your drink of choice, as requested. Do you still need any assistance in your emergency repairs, my lady? Perhaps something that requires some manly strength?
[ Ned smirks at her. ]
no subject
Your manly strength is not needed, thank you. I managed to find the valve.
With any luck, I can repair this completely.
[But she'll grin at his chivalry.]
What happened to mocking me?
