[No video this time. Perhaps that is a message in and of itself from the charismatic member of the council. But his voice carries enough weight as it is. Melancholy and... pensive. Like something is missing.]
This time of the year isn't what it should be. I do not know how to put it, not truly.
In London, my London, we'd be preparing the most fabulous balls. A series of them, using all the ballrooms. One for the nobility and wealthy. One open for the people to see the palace and meet their King and Queen. Another for the sheer joy and celebration for the palace staff. They would be under the stars, and wine would flow and there would be ice sculptures such as only the greatest water mages could make.
[Wistful. Yes, that's what he is. He misses those better days. Misses when his days were simpler, and his responsibilities were light, or non-existent.]
But that is not to be I suppose.
So perhaps I need to think less upon those festivities I shall miss and learn more of what others would have. Tell me, how did your people bring in a new year?

[He shook his head a little, before embracing Rhy tight, tucking his face into the crook of his neck for a moment. Just needing time to gather himself, as silly as it might seem. Llewellyn had found himself just a little lost in the overwhelming feeling of love and affection for the other. Of realizing how wanted he was in return and how lucky he could be to have gotten to know Rhy. A man so sweet, and so very patient with him...]

[And he was happy to have this with his partner. A future, together.]
We should drink to celebrate.
no subject
I think that’s an excellent idea; we have a lot to celebrate now. A new year, and a new step forward with one another.
[So very different from the last new year he’d seen, Llewellyn couldn’t help but smile at the thought.]
no subject
[He lets Watts down onto the couch and laughs.]
I'm gleeful my dear.
no subject
I confess, I’m not sure I’ve ever felt quite so much joy before...? [He responded with a grin that spoke volumes,] And as long as you’re by my side? I think it will be a good year. A wonderful one, even. There are so many steps to look forward to taking with you, love.
[And considering Llewellyn was always so energetic, he was looking forward to it.]
no subject
We shall have so much to plan, dear.
no subject
I can well imagine, I’ve uh— never been to a wedding. But! I’ve heard a coworker planning his, and it seemed like here’s a lot to it? Then there’s the living arrangements, which... should be easier here?
[Murdoch had lived in a hotel for several years before he and Dr. Ogden had found someone to build them a house. Which... was a whole other thing.]
no subject
Yes, it should be. However I fear the double dome are all taken. I'm not certain. We'll figure it out, though.
no subject
Mm... That’s unfortunate. You’re right though, we’ll figure it out. Even if I just move a little closer for now?
[Because the dorm certainly didn’t offer privacy. Pulling the bottle of wine over to pour a little more out for them, he smiled.]
I’m sure we can sort something out.
[He’s trying a little optimism for once, because it felt appropriate right now. He wanted to be a better than he had been, to believe in the possibility of good things.]
no subject
[Sharing his silly little double bed is good. He doesn't care provided he is there with the other.]
I shall have to find a jeweler in the morning. Do your people use rings?
no subject
As long as we’re together, I know I’ll be happy... I like having you near.
[He hummed a little at the idea of rings. His knowledge was sparse when it came to weddings, but he did know rings were involved, though it sounded as though the tradition might differ in Rhy’s world.]
Mm... There is a ring given, yes. Though usually only to one member of the couple.
[The bride, of course. Men didn’t start wearing wedding rings as well until a specific point later in history. A time not far off for Llewellyn, but still in the future.
He offered a small smile though, this was their wedding and they could pick and choose what they wished to. He’d already been wanting to give Rhy something as a symbol of the relationship, and now...? It seemed all the more fitting.]
I would like that though, if I can get you one as well? Is there an uh— specification for what a ring should look like or do you have a preference?
[Llewellyn wanted to get it right, and to avoid another small blunder should something mean something else again.]
no subject
I do not know how it should look. I cannot easily create a Maresh sigil ring for you here. nor can I be certain you'd wish to carry the Maresh name.
no subject
Well... What if we did rings that were meaningful in a more symbolic sense? Something that means something to us here.
[The rest? This is where he knew he was a little less confident himself.]
I um... don’t have many traditions that I can pull from in my world. It’s not done, and my own family history is uh— something that’s still largely unknown to me beyond the few things I’ve figured out in the last couple years.
[He swirled the wine in his glass a bit, considering the matter of taking Rhy’s last name. It was weird to think of; it was something that never seemed like something that would come up in his life.]
It is traditional in my world for one to take the other’s surname, though not everyone does.
As for my own, people tend to use it more often than my given name... [A soft laugh at a thought,] It’s not even technically my family’s proper surname. They started using Watts when they moved to Canada. I could always hyphenate, if you like? That’s what uh— a colleague of mine did when he married.
no subject
Hyphenate? Please explain, dear. I think I've had a bit of wine and my head is spinning. I shall have to apologize to Kell.
no subject
At the question, and Rhy’s admittance of how he was feeling, Llewellyn smiled with some concern.]
I wonder if it might be a good idea to eat something, love. We uh... have had quite a bit.
[He didn’t really want to get up from where they were comfortable, but he did tend to worry...
The question though, that much was easy to answer as he moved.]
It’s not a common practise, I’ve only seen it done a few times... but rather than keeping my name or taking yours, I would make it Watts-Maresh. With a hyphen between the two on paper.
no subject
[Though he does not like his beloved leaving him, he does let Watts move.]
Watts-Maresh. Yes, I think that would be quite lovely, my dear.
no subject
[He can’t help the fond little smile at that again. Touching Rhy’s arm lightly in promise that he’d be back once he’d gotten their food as he noted the man’s expression over his getting up.
He moved to get the dishes that were waiting to be sampled. Though he continued to speak over his shoulder, sounding rather pleased.]
I’m glad, then we can say we’ve got one thing figured out already, love.
no subject
no subject
Two things, we’re even more ahead than I thought. I rather like this, I think. Figuring such pleasant things out.
[He put a little over everything together, not sure what Rhy would want most from what he’d gotten for the evening. Rather than dish up two plates, he filled one to share... If only because, as he moved back across the room, he returned to sitting lightly on Rhy’s lap with the plate held up for the man to take from as he wanted.]
Now, we can continue to figure out what other details we like and uh... Also make sure that we get some food into us.
[He gestured to the plate with a happy flush.]
no subject
Well, I think I'd like to see you in my family colors. Are you okay with that?
no subject
Hmm... I’ve never worn red before, and I can’t think of a better occasion to start. [He grinned back,] So yes, I would be more than okay with it.
no subject
There should be flowers. However we do this. An arrangement that bespeaks our love. In both of our languages.
no subject
Alternating once in a while to sneak a bite himself, he smiled at the mention of flowers. Yes, weddings definitely needed flowers.]
That’s a good idea, love. I’ve been hunting around the library to see if I can find a book to compare between our worlds. To uh— put together something that reflects both languages would be quite beautiful... I love it.
no subject
What are your thoughts on dancing?
no subject
Well... I’ve always liked the idea of it, and dancing is an important part to wedding receptions in my world. There’s always a first dance for those who’ve just been married.
[There was one small problem, though. Part of him wanted to keep it to himself and see if he couldn’t fix the problem before the day. The other part of him, the part that doesn’t like lies, won out.]
Unfortunately, I’ve never had an occasion to learn. But— I would like to, especially to share a dance with you.
