Tony felt himself being dragged back into the cave and his captors weren't being gentle as they did it. He couldn't see Yinsin but then again he was sure his friend would be fine. Tony was dragged into a room smaller then the one he and Yinsin had been staying in. He was shoved to another man and his head was dunked into a bowl of cold water and held there. Tony fought but he was weak with hunger and thirst so he didn't have much fight left. Just when he was about to black out, his torturer yanked his head out and yelled at him to make the weapons they wanted. Tony shook his head and the man shoved his head back under the water this time making sure to get water on the makeshift car battery keeping him alive.

The spark made Tony yell and he sucked in water and gagged. He threw up in the water but the man holding him didn't let him up for another minute or two. He was then dragged back to his cell and dumped on the ground in front of Yinsin. Tony didn't want to look up at the other man, he was too ashamed. The one time he stood up for what he knew was the right thing and he'd nearly died.....was he really going to make it out of this alive.

He rubs the back of his head.]

Yeah kiddo...what's up.

[Tony's voice is soft and encouraging.]

[Nope. He wasn’t going to cry. His eyes could burn all they want but he was so so so tired of crying. He’s clenching his fists right enough to gouge the skin and it’s just enough to keep his emotions in check.]

I’m sorry. I’ve been a total jerk and all you did was be nice to me and I didn’t know how to deal with any of this and I lashed out at you and I’m so sorry. I miss you and I’ve been acting so stupid and I’m sorry.

Peter...no body grieves in the same way. You weren't being a jerk, you were a grief stricken, scared kid and you acted like a grief stricken scared kid. I understand and no apology is needed.

I've avoided talking to you for a month. Badly. I was bad at it. I was so bad at actually avoiding you And I was super creepy! I listened to you sleep like twice! [in for a penny...]

[Tony chuckles softly]

Okay the sleep thing is a little creepy, but Morgan did that to me too, so believe me I'm used to it.

Yeah, but you're her dad. [super uncomfortable shrug.]

I'm kind of your dad too kiddo.

[shut the front door, mr. stark. peter's not crying you are. he's looking at everything and anything but directly ahead. because if he doesn't get caught nobody knows he's doing it. right? totally how crying works.]

Third level...found a good pile of workable junk so I'm digging around.

[peter doesn’t waste time. He’s practically running so it really shouldn’t be surprising to Tony that he makes it there in a short handful of minutes. Or that he’s stuck in the entryway staring with a kind of sad desperation that shows how worried he is about being rejected now that he was there]

[Tony waves at Peter using one board he is holding.]

Hey Peter.

H-hey? Hi. [Peter clears his throat and steps around the piles to Tony's side. He worries the inside of his cheek and curls his hands inside the sleeves of his sweater as he examines the mess in front of them, eyes darting between the items Tony's already grabbed up and the man himself.

Would it be weird to hug him now?

It'd be totally weird, wouldn't it?

It's definitely weird.

He swings his arms aimlessly.]

What-what exactly are we looking for?

Wood for a backgammon board.

[Tony puts the wood he's holding and stands up. He moves to slowly and gently wrap Peter Parker in a hug.]

[yep. still nice. just. very nice. Peter's arms are up and around him before he can even think to pull away and he's not-He's not nearly as gentle because the first time they hugged it had also been their last and he hadn't known.

He hadn't known and he wasn't going to pretend it's okay anymore because it wasn't. It wasn't. And he'd circled through guilt and bargaining and anger so many times in the last half a year before reaching anything close to acceptance only to land here and it'd just-

Everything had burst open.]

[Tony let Peter hug him as long as he wants to. Touch and comfort were something his Peter and his Morgan needed a lot of and he is going to give Peter what he needs.]

I'll teach you,,,it's like checkers with more thinking and some luck.

[Peter needs a lot of reassurance that Tony wasn't going to vanish on him again. He can't do that again</>. He doesn't even consider moving until Tony does. Like somehow this can make up for five years and eight months of lost opportunities.]

Okay. Okay, but why? Are we making a backgammon board?

[He's totally invested now. He's a dumpster diver at heart. You literally first met him after he rescued a decimated laptop that he was going to scavenge for parts and then fix up later. There was no way he was walking away from this project.

But also Backgammon?]

[He smiled sadly as he continues looking for the right wood at the right lengths. that will take the stain he is planning to use.]

That man you saw in my memory...the tall balding one with glasses...that's my friend Yinsin....he taught me to play when we were held together. I'm making a board in honor of him....I missed him and I figured maybe playing the game again would be nice.

[Peter listens to him pretty much how he always does when he actually isn't the one in trouble for once, intensely and trying to figure out what the true message was underneath. The brutal honesty kinda throws Peter for a loop. Not that...He appreciates it. He more than appreciates it, but the change from the Tony he died in front of and the one he came back to...The differences were going to catch him by surprise.

He nods and shrugs.] Okay. [He claps his hands together and rubs them.] What size board are we looking for?
