[ This memory plays over the network. It's not Theon in this memory but Reek, the creature completely broken by Ramsay. When he left to follow his orders he feels like he's in the wrong skin. Theon is dead. But Ramsay had told him to do this and so somehow he pulled off the act. The words of an old life felt hollow.

But when the man sees through him the facade cracks. When the man dies he's able to compose himself slightly. And when he tells the man that they'll live if they yield, he actually believes it. There's a crack of Theon there, a moment, where it feels like he's done something right, saved some of his people.

The glimmer doesn't last, Ramsay made sure of that. ]

[Seeing Ramsay effects her, as it always will. She can remember the sweet things he said to her in the name of manipulation. He got a rise out of it, just as he did the abuse. He liked to make them trust him. Or feel safe, if only for a moment, before he took the knife to their skin.]

You are Theon of house Greyjoy. Now and forever. You are my prince. [She's holding out a glass of whiskey, tempered by tea, to him.]

[She would never forgive herself, if he fell back into Reek. She would blame herself, her inability to keep him here as Theon. That she wasn't strong enough or anything enough to tether him here.

She doesn't say anything. She lets him drink, lets him sit, her arm around him so he knew she was there for him. He can speak when he's ready. If he's ever ready.]

He did have a flair for the dramatic, didn't he.

[Because really, what else can he say about any of that?]

I'm trying to be polite about it, although I'm not sure why.

[He still doesn't know how to respond to Theon or what to feel towards him. He's turned to Theon for advice and understanding, but there is still fury, hurt and disgust. Seeing his time with Ramsay didn't help to sort any of that. He still feels a mixture of emotions. Satisfaction is hollow and disappears quickly, as he knows no man deserves this. Yet that betrayal is still with him and hard to shake.

He might be culpable in this. Had Roose said anything about flaying when he told Robb his bastard was going to reclaim Winterfell? He couldn't remember, as much as he tried, his memories were traitors to him now.

What did he even say to this? The broadcast starts, but the cuts off. There really are no clear thoughts or feelings, only conflicted ones.]

Roose told me he sent his bastard after you and meant to deliver punishment.

I gave no orders for this.

I'm sorry.

It's possible Roose wanted Ramsay Snow to take Winterfell through any means possible.

I blame Roose for more than most from home apparently do. He raised Ramsay, he was as capable of cruelty as his bastard. Ramsay wouldn't have had the power he did if Roose hadn't given it to him.

So you're saying that a father does not influence the cruel decisions the son makes?

[Like maybe a father influencing his son to betray his best friend?]

Who are you, to my Robb?

[Hey, Theon. This is the girl who has been helping Robb drink his pain away.]
jondrette: (look up)

[personal profile] jondrette 2020-06-15 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Why were you not with his army?
jondrette: (what?)

[personal profile] jondrette 2020-06-15 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That man. He's the son of the man that killed Robb.

[She's thinking, putting things together, what she can remember from drunken nights, what she can't.

Her dark eyes grow cold, a scowl evident across her face.]

You are the one.

[personal profile] jondrette 2020-06-19 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

He does not talk about you.

[Which is worse, honestly, to not be spoken about than to spoken about in low whispers. But she knows this, and she knows enough from what Robb's said, what she's learned from the memories since she's arrived. She doesn't particularly care for Theon Greyjoy. Not in the least.]

Yes.

What did that man do to you? To make you like this?

[Eponine pulls no punches. Just goes straight for the throat.]
