[Our scene is laid in a pod kitchen. The first-person view displays a countertop, with a toaster upon it. The toaster is older, a bit battered, but it's been lovingly polished to some semblance of its former glory. It's plugged in, but when Alec pushes the lever -- which he's done a few times since the video started -- he's not pushing it down quite hard enough to engage the power. Also, there's no bread inside. It seems, at the moment, he's just trying to figure out how it works.

Functional usage can come later.

After the fourth or fifth try, Alec sighs.]

Oh, Sakor's t--

This is a foolish question, no doubt. But would someone care to explain this to me? I've taken the damned thing apart and put it back together twice, and I can't...

It's for bread, yes? Or pastries?

[Alec grumbles and kneels down beside the counter. The feed cuts after a brief flash of his distorted reflection in the toaster, pouting, brow furrowed with frustration.]

[Alec MAY be blushing when he wanders back to the kitchen.]

[The retort was perfect by Seregil's standards, and he was certain that he'd managed to make Alec blush this time. So he simply called out exactly what would make it worse.]

You should make me some more toast, talí

[Before returning to his book.]

Is that an invitation?

[Asking from the kitchen, because he doubts that it is.]

[Seregil closes the book, making his way into the kitchen and leaning against the doorframe.]

It's an invitation for you to make more toast.

[This time he really is talking about toast.]

You see? It's already started.

[But he's still getting more bread out. And other breakfast accouterments.]

[Seregil watches him for a few minutes before replying. It's a very nice view that doesn't need to be blemished by his teasing ... yet]

I assure you, my love for toast started long before now.

[There could be three ways of taking that. One of the three is wrong.]

[ Alec snickers. He's in the midst of scrambling some eggs.]

I'm aware of that, tali.

I can help if you'd like.

[He knows he's only passable in the kitchen, but at least he can do something besides make toast sound like a lascivious word.]

You can get on the sausage if you like.

[Alec is less subtle with his innuendo.]

[Seregil just laughs it off, moving to work on cooking the sausage.]

Clearly, I forgot to teach you subtlety.

[whiteroadrunning]

[Alec doesn't even make an effort to conceal his laughter this time.]

I don't know what you mean. You've got the idea anyway, you just chose to make it unwholesome.

I doubt that was the idea at all. You've been making inappropriate remarks since a few days ago.

[He is well aware that he's been doing most of them.]

And you haven't?

[Eggs and toast are ready!]

And the sausage?

[of_bokthersa]

I've been inappropriate since the day you met me.

[Refuse that Alec.]

And sausage doesn't get hard that quickly.

[whiteroadrunning]

[Alec flicks a bit of butter toward Seregil's face.]

[of_bokthersa]

That's hardly going to help the matter.

[He looks back, raising an eyebrow at him.]

Besides, I've already done that.

[whiteroadrunning]

[More butter flight!]

[Seregil grabs a pan to deflect the butter.]

You're being childish.

[whiteroadrunning]

[Alec grins, and smears a bit of jam from his finger onto Seregil's cheek.]

Childish?

[of_bokthersa]

[His brows raise as he wipes off the jam with his hand. Is this the way Alec and his older self act in private? He can't say that he dislikes it. It's refreshing and feels right in its own way.

Then he wipes his hand on Alec's face, right down his nose.]

You're going to make me burn the sausages.

[whiteroadrunning]

Aura forbid, not the sausage!

[Alec is laughing -- wholeheartedly warm and wonderful -- when he leans over to smoosh his nose against Seregil's cheek, which he then proceeds to lick clean with one long, messy swipe of his tongue. He does at least have the decency to immediately dry Seregil's face with a dish towel, but he's still laughing while he takes their plates out to the table.]

Bring it out when it's ready, tali.

[of_bokthersa]

[Seregil waits until Alec's left the room to let out a long and slow breath. He wonders if Alec has any idea how tempting he's being. How easily Seregil could just let the damn sausage burn as he took the other man on the kitchen table, or counter.]

Or maybe I'll just eat all the sausage myself.

[It's called out in a teasing manner, but he's thinking about it now. Alec is far too lewd for sausages.]

You do that, and I'll eat all your damn toast. I swear it.

And your eggs are getting cold.

All my toast?

[He knows he shouldn't, but he can't help himself.]
