[Our scene is laid in a pod kitchen. The first-person view displays a countertop, with a toaster upon it. The toaster is older, a bit battered, but it's been lovingly polished to some semblance of its former glory. It's plugged in, but when Alec pushes the lever -- which he's done a few times since the video started -- he's not pushing it down quite hard enough to engage the power. Also, there's no bread inside. It seems, at the moment, he's just trying to figure out how it works.

Functional usage can come later.

After the fourth or fifth try, Alec sighs.]

Oh, Sakor's t--

This is a foolish question, no doubt. But would someone care to explain this to me? I've taken the damned thing apart and put it back together twice, and I can't...

It's for bread, yes? Or pastries?

[Alec grumbles and kneels down beside the counter. The feed cuts after a brief flash of his distorted reflection in the toaster, pouting, brow furrowed with frustration.]

[Alec narrows his eyes at the bedroom.]

I would hate to think you had some understanding of this that you're keeping from me.

That doesn't sound anything like me.

[It sounds exactly like him, and he knows it.]

[whiteroadrunning]

[Alec's head appears from around the corner of the counter.]

Doesn't it?

You seemed so content in not knowing, why would I go to any lengths to find out?

[Seregil is reading the 'Biometrics for Dummies' book he found, glancing over it at him.]

[whiteroadrunning]

[This is suspicious and borderline judgemental glaring, Seregil.]

[of_bokthersa]

[He'll just pull the book down a bit.]

Do you need something, Alec?

[whiteroadrunning]

Not at all.

[Alec disappears back behind the counter, mumbling to himself now and again.

Roughly five minutes later, a piece of toast bounces off Seregil's head.]

[of_bokthersa]

[Which only causes Seregil to cackle like a madman. It's the best reaction.]

I see you've gotten the toaster to work.

[whiteroadrunning]

It's asinine, you know. The entire idea of it. What's wrong with a fire?

[of_bokthersa]

You have to admit that it's convenient not to have to stoke one just to throw toast at me.

[Holding it up he takes a bite.]

[whiteroadrunning]

That's just the thing, though.

[Alec jumps up and rounds the counter to pace in front of Seregil.]

Convenience breeds excess. What's to stop you from eating nothing but toast, if it's just right there waiting to be made? You don't have to do anything at all, it's just there.

I rather like the idea of eating nothing but toast.

[He certainly wasn't talking about toast, and just saying it to make the other man blush. To add to a point to his teasing he took a large bite of his toast.]

[whiteroadrunning]

[Alec's about to pass him about the merits of a balanced diet when the double entendre hits him, full force and unexpected, and while he doesn't blush, it does seem that his brain has momentarily short-circuited. He clears his throat, and instead of acknowledging the statement, he continues:]

I suppose I'll have to make your breakfast from now on.

[of_bokthersa]

[The lack of a blush was disappointing. Had he corrupted him so thoroughly that such comments were commonplace - honestly, he believes that they might be.]

Have you come around to the merits of my toast eating ways?

[whiteroadrunning]

I eat toast so thoroughly and frequently, you aren't even sure what to do with me anymore.

[of_bokthersa]

Then it seems a toaster is good for you.

[Said as he continues to eat the formerly thrown toast.]

[whiteroadrunning]

You're awful.

[Alec MAY be blushing when he wanders back to the kitchen.]

[of_bokthersa]

[The retort was perfect by Seregil's standards, and he was certain that he'd managed to make Alec blush this time. So he simply called out exactly what would make it worse.]

You should make me some more toast, talí

[Before returning to his book.]

[whiteroadrunning]

Is that an invitation?

[Asking from the kitchen, because he doubts that it is.]

[of_bokthersa]

[Seregil closes the book, making his way into the kitchen and leaning against the doorframe.]

It's an invitation for you to make more toast.

[This time he really is talking about toast.]

[whiteroadrunning]

You see? It's already started.

[But he's still getting more bread out. And other breakfast accouterments.]

[of_bokthersa]

[Seregil watches him for a few minutes before replying. It's a very nice view that doesn't need to be blemished by his teasing ... yet]

I assure you, my love for toast started long before now.

[There could be three ways of taking that. One of the three is wrong.]

[whiteroadrunning]

[ Alec snickers. He's in the midst of scrambling some eggs.]

[He knows he's only passable in the kitchen, but at least he can do something besides make toast sound like a lascivious word.]
